Some of the characteristics of Gag Grouper while fishing in the Fort Myers, Florida area are:

  • The fight while on the hook: They are strong fighters that can pull hard on the hook and make sudden runs.
  • Size: They can grow up to 36 inches in length and weigh up to 25 pounds.
  • Habitat: They prefer rocky ledges, live bottom, reefs, and wrecks in depths of 60 to 70 feet.
  • Coloring: They have a brownish-gray coloration with dark worm-like markings on their sides.
